FEMININITY
All throughout the history of art and poetry, women have been compared to the things we found most beautiful and pure in nature: fruit and flowers. There are countless examples of women being painted surrounded by an abundance of fruit, or in a field of flowers. Our body shapes are described as “pear” or “apple”, and our beauty and sensuality are often described using flower metaphors.
I believe that representing femininity and womanhood through such antiquated imagery is toxic, and it only serves to exacerbate the unhealthy standards we are held to. Through this ever-expanding body of work, I want to challenge this representation of female beauty.
